How To Get Rid Of Darkened Knees And Elbows

Darkened skin on elbows and knees occurs as a result of sun exposure, friction and pressure.
Dead skin cells make skin on the elbows and knees darker than the skin on the rest of the body. For example, when working on a table, we usually put pressure on our elbows. This pressure results in our elbows having a darker pigmentation than the rest of our bodies. Women are especially embarrassed by darkened skin,  especially when they’re wearing short skirts or short-sleeved shirts.
Luckily, here are seven ways to get rid of darkened skin on the knees and/or elbows:
1. Aloe Vera gel
Aloe Vera gel helps to reduce dark spots caused by sun exposure. Apply some Aloe Vera gel onto the affected area(s) and leave it there for half an hour. It will give your knees and elbows a fresher look.
2. Turmeric, honey and milk
Turmeric is well known for its antiseptic properties. Honey helps moisturize dry skin and milk acts as bleach. Mix turmeric powder with milk and honey in order to create a paste like mixture. Apply the mixture onto the affected area(s) and leave it there for some time before you wash it with water. These natural ingredients will help to reduce dark spots on the skin.
3. Olive oil in combination with sugar
Mix equal parts of olive oil and sugar in order to get a thick mixture. Exfoliate skin on knees and elbows with this mixture and wash it with mild soap and water afterwards.
4. Lemon
Lemon can also help when it comes to lightening your skin. Apply lemon juice on the darkened skin on your elbows and/or knees and let it sit for an hour or so before rinsing it off with water. For better results, do this procedure on a daily basis until you notice an improvement.
5. Hydrogen peroxide
Hydrogen peroxide will help to reduce dark spots and damage from excessive exposure to the sun. Apply diluted hydrogen peroxide using cotton wool and massage the area for about 15 minutes.  During the massaging, you will notice that dark skin is removed.
6. Lotion with UV protection
Sunscreen lotions are very helpful when it comes to dealing with this kind of situation. Make sure you always apply sunscreen lotion when you go out. This will protect your skin from UV rays, which make your skin darker.
7. Almonds
Almonds are a rich source of vitamin E, which helps in removing dark skin. Make a thick almond mixture and rub the affected area with it. This will help you remove dead skin cells.
Additional tips:
  • Exfoliate your knees with hollow rock from volcanic lava.
  • Apply coconut oil before you go to bed in order to reduce dark spots.
  • You can also use creams for whitening the skin (consult your dermatologist before you buy one).
  • Remember to always hydrate your elbows and knees (inadequate hydration darkens the skin).
  • Healthy diet is also very important. Try eating foods rich in vitamins А and Е, such as almonds, potatoes, carrots, spinach, dry apricots, lettuce etc.
