How Often You Should Wash Your Hair, According To Scienc

Some people say you need to wash your hair everyday some say every other day, but the question is how often do you really need to? This question is one that has plagued up for years, and now we have the answer.
The hair gets greasy for the same reason the face gets oily: glands in the skin produce an oily substance called sebum. Sebum is what keep the hair moistened, to protect it from drying out. The thing about sebum is everybody produces a different amount.

How much washing is right for you?
The answer is different for everyone, but in reality there is no need to wash your hair every day. Washing too often can in fact do more harm than it does good. “It’s paradoxical, but people who wash their hair a lot to get rid of oil are drying out their scalp and producing more oil,” Goldberg said.
  1. Skin Type
If your skin and hair are normal to dry, you need to wash it only once or twice a week. If you have a super greasy, you probably need to wash your hair more often.
  1. Hair Texture
Texture matters because it affects how quickly sebum works its way from your roots through the length of the hair. Coarse or curly slows the way it spreads through the hair, so if you have hair like this you would only need to wash around once a week. People with fine straight hair will need to shampoo twice a week or more. I have finer hair, and I wash mine three times a week.
  1. Styling
Another thing to consider is how and how often you style your hair and what products you use. If your hair is processed or damaged by styling, you should wash it less frequently. I use a lot of product, so in between washings I like to use apple cider vinegar to help with the product overload.
